2011 Regional Seminars - Ground Source Heat Pump Installations
Six regional seminars are being held on this important subject from September to December. Demand for geothermal drilling for closed and open loop systems is about to accelerate with the introduction of the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) this September. Government is predicting that 10 million ground source heat pumps will need to be installed by 2050 to meet carbon saving targets. Learn more at these seminars.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The major meeting of the year is the BDA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which features a guest speaker. The AGM & Seminar is normally held in the Spring. All members are invited and guests are very welcome.
Guest speaker topics have included HSE involvement with the Drilling Industry, Coal Authority drilling permissions and hazardous gases, Eurocode geotechnical standards, Sonic drilling techniques, Geothermal market growth, and training within the industry.
This year's AGM was held on 12 May near Preston. The guest speaker was Andy Howley, Director of LoopMaster (Europe) Ltd., who presented on the UK's Ground Source & Geothermal market. The following agenda was considered at the AGM.
Management Committee
The Management Committee consists of 13 elected members who are nominated and elected by fellow BDA members together with 2 Directors, National Secretary and 2 Lead Driller representatives.
It meets bi-monthly to manage the Association’s affairs, review progress made by the sub-committees and discuss relevant drilling industry matters. The Committee reports back to members via the BDA newsletter, which is issued bi-monthly, and its web site.
The Management Committee last met on 20 October 2011 and considered the following agenda.
Working Parties
Working Parties are commissioned by the Management Committee to investigate and report to the sub committees on specific industry matters and concerns. All working party meetings are chaired by a member of the relevant sub-committee. These working parties consult with other bodies and leading specialists within their field, to ensure the widest possible input into the subject.
Sub-committees
The BDA consists of sub-committees covering a wide range of activities relevant to the drilling industry. Regular meetings are held for the following sections; training and education, marketing, finance, and safety, standards and technical.
All sub-committee meetings are chaired by a member of the Management Committee. Each sub-committee consists of a number of representatives who are drawn from BDA membership or are leading specialists in their field.
The sub-committee Chairmen report directly to the Management Committee.
