British Drilling Association Welcomes David Bradley as New Chair

May 19, 2026

The British Drilling Association (BDA) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Bradley as its new Chair, with effect from 19 May 2026.

Bringing a strong mix of technical, operational and strategic experience to the role, David steps into the position with a clear and practical view of the priorities facing the drilling sector. With a civil engineering background from the University of Strathclyde and a career spanning piling, grouting, tunnelling, ground investigation and instrumentation, he takes on the role at a time when the industry is under growing scrutiny from clients, regulators and the wider construction supply chain.

As Chair, David’s focus will be on supporting members through clearer expectations, stronger competence structures and practical guidance that can be applied on live projects. He is particularly keen to reinforce the value of the BDA Audit, helping clients, consultants and insurers better understand what it measures, how it supports standards such as BS 22475 and the UK GI Specification, and why it matters in terms of quality, reliability and risk reduction.

David is also committed to helping the sector strengthen workforce development through clearer entry points, more visible progression routes and practical training in areas where risks remain highest. Alongside this, he sees a continued role for the BDA in supporting members with proportionate guidance on environmental reporting, digital tools and closer collaboration across the wider geotechnical and construction sector.

Commenting on his appointment, David Bradley said: “I’m pleased to be taking on the role of BDA Chair at such an important time for the sector. We have strong technical knowledge and a great deal of practical expertise across the industry, but there is more we can do to make expectations clearer, strengthen competence and provide guidance that members can apply with confidence on projects.

“The BDA already has an important role in helping to raise standards and support the industry, and I want to build on that by keeping the focus on practical measures that improve quality, reduce risk and help members respond to the changing demands of clients and regulators.”
