The Scope of the Association
The BDA is the UK trade association for those who drill holes in the ground, manufacture / supply drilling rigs & equipment, or supply services to the geotechnical and ground investigation industry.

Our members cover such things as: ground investigation; mineral exploration; water-well activities; ground consolidation; quarry drilling; geothermal drilling; directional drilling; ground anchors; piling; laboratory testing; training; specialist insurance services; geotechnical consultancy; drilling rig & equipment supply. We do not however include drilling for oil and gas.

Association Aims
1. Promote the Land Drilling/Geotechnical industry.
2. Promote BDA members to clients and procurers as paragons.
3. To improve safety, efficiency and health & wellbeing in the industry.
4. To encourage training and education.
5. To promote standards & encourage higher standards
6. To establish codes of practice where practicable.
7. To liaise with Government bodies, institutions and other organisations to further the interests of the membership.
8. To compile relevant statistical support.
9. To support and promote scientific research into drilling techniques.
10. To collaborate with other related associations both in the UK and abroad to advance our industry.
11. To disseminate information to interested parties.

ANNUAL CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT
The BDA expects that its members will strive to have the highest standards of health & safety, quality of workmanship and technical proficiency and promotes its membership as such to the public, specifiers and procurers.
Your agreement:*
As an ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving these standards we would ask that you agree to abide by the following criteria and sign off this annual membership agreement.
1. All operatives (including sub-contracted operatives) have, or are working towards, the appropriate qualification(s) for their work activity, as laid down in British and European standards and will have the correct CSCS cards. Note 1. For a Lead Driller, this will be an NVQ L2 and a CSCS Land Drilling – Lead Driller card Note 2. For a Drilling Support Operative, this will be an NVQ L2 and a CSCS Drilling Support Operative card
2. In addition to the above all Lead Drillers and Drilling Support Operatives, engaged in ground investigation, will have undertaken, or will be registered for the BDA Audit (or equivalent 3rd party audit scheme [please state scheme]) Note 1. BS 22475-2 states that 'all boring and drilling operatives, to include Lead Drillers and Drillers (Drilling Support Operatives) ... shall hold an NVQ in Land Drilling and hold a valid and current audit card of competence as issued by the British Drilling Association Ltd or an equivalent body in a State of the European Union' Note 2. BS 22475-3 requires the competency of operatives to be verified at regular intervals to ensure ongoing competence Note 3. CE UK Specification for Ground Investigation 2nd edition states that ‘work shall be carried out in accordance with BS 22475- 2 and BS 22475-3’
3. Has £5million Employers’ Liability Insurance if legally required and £2million Public Liability Insurance and Professional Indemnity Insurance if appropriate
4. Will submit an annual Accident Return Form to the BDA/Build UK as and when required
5. Complies with The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 as relevant to the company
6. Conforms to current industry guidance on good practice as laid down by the BDA, HSE et al
7. Will carry out its business lawfully, ethically and with propriety
8. Complies with the British Code of Advertising Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing
9. Supports and complies with the BDA Constitution, Rules (see website) and Mission Statement
10. Will carry out its business in accordance with the Construction Supply Chain Payment Charter
11. Will endeavour to carry out its business sustainably and shall conform with relevant environmental regulation
