British Drilling Association Launches New Entrant Training Scheme for 2024/25

January 16, 2024

The British Drilling Association (BDA) is pleased to announce the recruitment for its esteemed New Entrant Training Scheme, for the 2024/25 session. This initiative is a significant step towards nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals in the land drilling sector.

About the Scheme

The BDA’s New Entrant Training Scheme is an extensive 18-month Land Drilling Specialist Applied-Skills Programme. It is meticulously designed to transform a company employee, from a Drilling Support Operative, into a competent Lead Driller. The successful completion of this programme leads to the prestigious National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Land Drilling, Level 2.

The scheme adopts a comprehensive training approach, blending formal off-the-job instruction with supervised on-the-job training at the employer’s site. This dual approach ensures a holistic development of the trainee, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The programme culminates with an NVQ assessment, marking the trainee’s readiness to take on the role of a Lead Driller.

Unique Features

  • Industry-wide Relevance: The scheme is open to various land drilling sectors and enterprises, making it a versatile opportunity for diverse organisations.
  • Endorsement and Support: The scheme is fully endorsed by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and is a part of CITB’s traineeship programme for specialist trades known as SAPs (Specialist Applied-Skills Programmes).
  • Financial Assistance: Eligible employers can benefit from grants from CITB, easing the financial burden of training new entrants.
  • Administrative and Training Support by BDA: The BDA plays a crucial role as the Training Provider, handling all administrative aspects, organizing off-the-job training, coordinating with CITB for on-the-job training, and arranging the final NVQ assessment.

Invitation for Applications

The BDA encourages organisations to identify potential candidates within their teams who exhibit the passion and aptitude for a drilling career.
