The BDA Publishes New Video – “Soil, Rock and Water: The Life of a Ground Investigation Sample”

October 16, 2025

The British Drilling Association (BDA) has released a new educational video, “Soil, Rock and Water: The Life of a Ground Investigation Sample”, highlighting the vital role that correct sampling plays in every successful ground investigation.

The video takes viewers behind the scenes – from field to laboratory to final disposal – and shows how soil, rock and water samples should be collected, logged and handled for accurate geotechnical, environmental and construction assessment.

Sampling may appear straightforward, but it’s the foundation of reliable data. When sampling is done incorrectly, the integrity of the entire investigation can be compromised leading to poor design decisions, costly delays, or even project failure.

The video reinforces the BDA’s message that only properly trained and audited professionals can ensure samples are taken, recorded and managed in accordance with best practice and recognised standards. BDA audited members can show their working, verified by independent experts through the BDA Audit process.
